4.1 Networking in the Library Community
While completing my internship at the Harlingen Public Library, the library director expressed his concerns with me about trying to bring in more teen students to the library. I suggested hosting a movie night with food for the high school students' summer book club. The students in summer school had a book club reading The Maze Runner and I organized a movie night held at the public library once they finished the book. This was many of the students' first visit to the library and we had forms for them to apply for their library cards and showed them how to get the Overdrive app on their phones to read e-books and listen to audiobooks. I plan to continue a relationship with the public library's librarians and director to encourage students to visit and use the library resources that are not available at the school as well as stay involved with the library by volunteering and attending library events.
